In May of 2025 Felicia and I flew up to Grand Rapids, Michigan to go to our friend’s wedding and visit with our old neighbors, the Rosendale’s. We stayed in Holland, Michigan and did some sightseeing that included seeing Lake Michigan.
The Grand Rapids and Holland area was settled by the Dutch, and they have a lot of very good breweries there, but you can’t do breweries all day for four days, so we drove up and down the coast, visited, looked at Lake Michigan, and looked at the giant sand dunes around the lake.
We had been to the Upper Peninsula of Michigan before, this seemed very different except the water was very cold in both places.

Most of of these beach pictures were taken around Saugatuck and Douglas, Michigan. Both very nice towns for summer visits, not sure I want to be there in the winter.
Lake Michigan is so big it seems like an ocean
My wife was right here when I took this picture
Some of these pictures show the biggest beach I’ve ever seen that had nobody on it. The reason no one is on the beach is that it was still cold (at the end of May!) and windy and the water was about 60°. I put my feet in the water, but that was about it. We did not see anybody swimming and only a few boats sailing.
