London September 2025

Downtown London

In early September, I flew from DFW to London Heathrow and spent one week working in downtown London. This was an interesting week as there were large protests in London when I arrived and a large protest on the day I left.  Also, the underground train operators were on strike in London which made a mess of all the traffic.

Almost There!
I have been to London dozens of times, but it never gets old seeing these sites and learning about all their history.
Mind the Gap! The London Tube workers went on strike the week that I was there, slowing down all traffic, and making taxis and buses hard to find. We walked a lot and shared hired busses.
I did not ride the Tube this week
Good thing they have so many electric bikes for rent in London.

One thing that made the trip interesting was that I stayed in the middle of downtown old London city at Trafalgar Square. We stayed at the Trafalgar St. James Hotel in the heart of central London.  So, I was across the street from Trafalgar Square and several blocks away from Piccadilly Circus and a quick walk over to Buckingham Palace. Also, it is very close to Westminster Abbey, Parliament and Big Ben.

Piccadilly Circus is always busy with entertainers and tourists

My company hosted a dinner event in the historic underground Churchill War Rooms to have drinks with customers. I was very surprised that you could rent a reception area in the same underground command center that World War II was run from.
