Brisbane & Adelaide Australia Feb 2026

In early February, I flew non-stop for 16 hours from DFW airport to Brisbane, Australia and spent one week working in Brisbane and in Adelaide.  I left on Friday night and arrived at about 6:30 am on Sunday morning.   I met up with Gary and Mark, and we spent Sunday doing sightseeing around Brisbane.  On Thursday I had been in Washington DC where it was very icy and there was more than 1 foot of snow on the roads.  I left from DFW on Friday night and on Sunday in Brisbane it was 98 degrees.

The first sign that I saw when I left Brisbane Airport was a snake warning sign – welcome to Australia!  Our sightseeing in Brisbane consisted mainly of walking around in shorts and T-shirts, taking the water taxi and drinking beer and cider to help us all recover from long flights.  The next day we benefitted by having Al drive us around the Brisbane area.  Al was born and raised there and still had relatives in Brisbane so he was a great tour guide.  I also learned that Brisbane will be the site of the 2032 summer Olympic games.

On Tuesday we spent half the day flying from Brisbane to Adelaide.  When we got there, it was still hot, so we took the train from Victoria Square to the beach at Glenelg.  We got in the water on the big sandy beach by the Glenelg jetty.  While we were in Adelaide we stayed in the Hilton across from Victoria Square.  We ate in some very good places, went shopping and to the market.

Flew home Adelaide >> Sydney >> DFW airport, another 16 hour long non-stop flight.

If you live in the Dallas area and travel a lot, it is very convenient to be able to fly non-stop from DFW to Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Auckland.  It saves a lot of hassle of going to LAX or San Francisco first.

A long way home with nowhere to land
