Southwest Colorado Mountains
In June of 2026, Felicia, Susie, Larry and I flew to Colorado Springs to see Kendra for a few days and then to go see the mountains in the southwest corner of Colorado. We have been skiing at some of these mountains but never been there in the summer. We also wanted to cool down as the temperature was already 90 degrees every day in Dallas.
We went to Colorado Springs, Crested Butte, Gunnison, Silverton, Ouray, Telluride, Durango, rode back to Silverton on the Durango-Silverton Railroad and then flew home from Durango.

Kendra showed us around Colorado Springs, her apartment and we drove through the Garden of the Gods, walked around Manitou Springs and then went to the base of Pike’s Peak and drank wine at Wines of Colorado. It seems like we end up there on every trip to Colorado Springs.
I have seen the “Falling Rocks” signs for years in the mountains but on this trip, we did get hit by large rocks coming off the side of a mountain and into the road. This was on the Million-Dollar Highway between Ouray and Silverton. That road already does not have guardrails, but the large falling rocks made it even more scary to drive on. And of course, I had told the rental car company that we dd not want any extra insurance on our rental car.
