Far North Norway

Link to Norway – Page 1

We had to spend 2 days working in Vardo on the north coast of Norway.  Although Kirkenes and Vardo are not far apart, there is a very long fjord between them that made driving take many hours.  We got on a Wideroe Airlines plane in Kirkenes and flew less than 15 minutes over the fjord to the town of Vadso.  From Vadso there was a 1-hour drive along the Barents Sea coast up to Vardo.

This is lonely road along the coast between Vadso and Vardo.
This is a good blackmail picture.

This was as close as I got to reindeer, we all took pictures with this reindeer in Vadso early in the morning before the shopkeepers opened up.

Brent and I stopped on the road to Vardo.  I think that the road stopped at Vardo which is on an island and reached by crossing a bridge

The old fort at Vardo is called the Vardohus Festnig.  It has been there since the 1300s and has the only tree in that part of Norway.

Brent and I were standing by it but it was already wrapped up for the winter.  The Arctic tree line was very far south of Vardo.

More pictures of Vardo.  It has a nice bay and a lot of fishing ships.  I really like the houses in Norway as they are painted with pastel colors and all look really nice.
