Salt Lake City Skiing March 2013

In February 2013, I flew to Salt Lake City to go skiing with Bobby Lee, who was there for work.  We had thought about skiing at Alta and then Snowbird.  We stayed at the Hilton in downtown Salt Lake City, just 2 blocks from the Mormon Temple.

I had wanted to ski at Alta because they are one of the few ski areas that don’t allow boarders.  Because some of Bobby’s co-workers were there, we ended up skiing for two days at Deer Valley, which is a very fancy ski area, and is one of the few other ski areas that is for skiing only.

Welcome to Deer Valley!

On our first morning, there was a bad snowstorm with high winds.  We were in whiteout conditions where we could not tell the ground from air.  Very dangerous if you get off a trail or fall off a steep cliff.  Bobby owes Felicia $100 for use of her goggles.  The second day was beautiful weather with sunshine and no wind at all.

I was very impressed with the employees at Deer Valley and the large number of lifts.  We did not wait in line at all for 2 days.  Transportation was easy from town to the ski areas and there is great choice of low-cost hotels and lodgings in Salt Lake City.  Just don’t look at staying in Park City or Deer Valley unless you have a lot of cash.

View from the Hilton of some of the mountains surrounding Salt Lake City.  It is very pretty.  We walked to the Mormon Temple and went inside where the Mormon Tabernacle Choir sings.
