Our cabin in Hulbert was the Sno Shu Inn. The same lady owned two sets of cabins, one on Lake Hulbert and the other about 3 miles away. These are open all year round for vacations, hunting, and snowmobiling. There were a lot of hiking trails, we were lucky that there were no mosquitoes during the whole trip.
This part of the UP is the moose capital of Michigan.

This is the lighthouse at Whitefish Point. We visited the Great Lakes Shipwreck Museum there. It was near here that the Edmund Fitzgerald sank in Lake Superior. You could walk out from there and see several shipwrecks down the beach. This was
the area that has had hundreds of ships sink in the last 300 years.
Kendra always gets in the water, I could barely stand to put my feet in. They said Lake Superior was the coldest because
of how deep it is.

On another day trip we drove up to Sault Ste. Marie and crossed into Canada. We then boarded the Agawa Canyon Tour Train and headed straight north into Canada; we went about 115 miles north. Along the way we saw lots of wildlife and some pretty good sights and views of Lake Superior. We stopped in Agawa Canyon, which had canyon walls about 500 feet tall, and had lunch, hiked, and climbed. It was pretty hot, and we all got sunburned.
When we got back, Felicia went to the Sault Ste. Marie Casino (which she did not have any luck in). Kendra and I went to the Soo Locks which is how the freighters go between Lake Superior and Lake Huron. There is a 21-foot difference between the two lakes and there is a large set of rapids that the Indians and fur traders used for hundreds of years. The locks were put in for raising and lowering big ships up and down by 21 feet. I was amazed at how this works; Kendra was not so impressed.
Another day trip was to go to Oswald’s Bear Ranch at Newberry. I did not think that this would be very good, but they have about 40 black bears on a 70-acre ranch. It was actually very interesting, as they had new cubs, yearling cubs, and many very large bears. The pictures all show the chain link fence, but we were glad the fence was there and could get very close up to the bears.
Kendra liked the cute bear cubs. A girl was feeding them honey. The cub’s mother had been killed and the Highway Department asked Oswald’s Bear Ranch to take the cubs.
