On our first full day in La Fortuna, we took a white-water rafting trip on the Balsa River with Wave Expeditions. Well worth the time and the money. They hauled us out of town for about an hour and had us in the Balsa River when they let the water out of the dams up in the mountains – we had some pretty good water. Our river guide’s name was Gerald and even though he was pretty young, he had been guiding white water rafting trips for 7 years. That was good as we had more people in our raft than they wanted to have but they were nice and kept all seven of us together.
Susie took these good pics with her disposable 35 mm camera. We stopped on our trip to rest & eat some fresh watermelon & pineapple. These are the only pics that we got that were not from the rafting company
After rafting, we were taken to eat a good typical Costa Rican lunch, saw how sugar cane was processed and had some high proof rum made with that sugar cane. One stick of cane made 2 pitchers of sugar juice.
On our second full day in La Fortuna, we had a very busy schedule that included hiking through the rain forest, hiking to the bottom of a tall waterfall that was 480 steps down (easy) and 480 steps up (pretty tough). We had a tour guide named Tony from Rainforest Explorers who took us around all day long. He is in pretty good shape to do the same trek every day. He was a licensed Costa Rican tour guide with a degree in Eco-Tourism and he knew his animals and plants. After hiking all morning, we were taken to eat a good typical Costa Rican lunch, saw how sugar cane was processed and had some high proof rum made with that sugar cane.
