We stopped while driving east on the
shores of Lake Superior.  This was at
Grand Marais, and it was one of the
prettiest towns that we saw on the trip.
I think that this would be a good place
to stay on a next trip.
Hiking down the beach looking for shipwrecks.
We were west of Au Sable Light Station and
there were three shipwrecks laying on the
beach.  Sank because of a sandstone reef
1/2 mile off shore
If you look closely at the picture on the left
you can see the ribs of the ship in the water
When the waves went out you could see the
wooden beams
The Log Slide Overlook at the Grand Sable Dunes,
near Au Sable Point, were very high and steep and
provided a wonderful view of Lake Superior.  If you
went down these dunes, you would have a very hard
time getting back up
On top of the Au Sable Light Station.  This was put here
only after there had been over 100 shipwrecks in the
immediate area.  The fog is very bad there because
of the high sand dunes, and the water is also very shallow
and rocky near this point.  Before modern guidance
systems, ships used to follow the shore and there were
many wrecks
Kendra wanted to stop and have her picture taken with this
elephant.  It was at a McDonald's somewhere near Hulbert
Felicia and Kendra at Manistique Light House on Lake
Michigan.  We did not want to leave the UP area.  The
weather was nice, the people were very friendly and there
was so much that we had not seen.
Last night of our trip was in a beautiful log cabin that was a bed a
breakfast in northern Wisconsin.  It would hold three families.  The
cabin was design and built in British Columbia, near where we had
vacationed a few years earlier.  It was taken apart and shipped to Wisconsin.

We did some hiking through the woods.  There were many deer at
dusk and sunup.  We counted over 60 in the field in front the cabin
out at once. Kendra met a little friend.
